In this form it was produced during following years:
1952 The 170 S receives its own factory designation of W 191, and is also referred to as 170 Sb. It was previously produced with the factory designation W 136 IV. It can be distinguished from its predecessor by the gear lever at the steering wheel. The W 191 was produced only as a limousine. Also available was a W 191 D model with a diesel engine designated 170 DS. No ventilation slits on the sides of the hood, instead two horizontal chrome strips.
1953 End of production of the 170 Sb model with the factory designation W 191. Since 1953, the Mercedes 170 S-V and 170 S-D has been produced with the W 136 VIII designation. This is an economy version, with the body from the 170 S model placed on an aged chassis of 170 S model.
